“It’s not rocket science.”
“It’s not rocket science.”
“But I don’t want to take over
the family business, dad.”
“So you want to leave a regular
income, safe and secure job to pursue some silly childhood dream that you’d
write a novel? I just can’t understand that. You’d be a fool if you let that
opportunity go.”
I looked at him trying to
push my dream away.
“So you’re a little slow, can’t
manage the finances yet and act like you have no interest in it at all. Dreams
can become true anytime, soon. Get settled in life, get married, have children.
These aren’t things that’ll wait for long. Dreams, they’ll come and go, they’ll
wait for you. Get your priorities sorted.”
I laughed. I’d heard that
line before.
“Just like I left my dream of
playing tennis for India, and took up coaching for CAT in the summer instead of
tennis camp. Just like I pursued Business Administration instead of Literature
when you asked me to put that dream on hold… right Dad?”
He stared at me, his face
even.
“Yes. Be sarcastic and ruin
your life, you fool. I just can’t understand why you want to write anyways.
Where’s the money in that? Why can’t you change your dream, live to our
expectations for once?”
I laughed again, and walked
towards the door.
